Description

Erected in 1950, the Bastogne Memorial represents the thanks and gratitude of the Belgian people to the American army and its allies for liberating Europe at the end of the Second World War. The memorial was built at the initiative of the Belgo-American Association, a group set up to perpetuate the memory of the gallant American soldiers who died on our soil. The walls of the memorial bear the names of the units that participated in the battle from 16 December 1944 to 25 January 1945 and tell the story of the historic Ardennes Offensive. This memorial is shaped as a five-pointed star. From the top of the memorial, visitors can enjoy a huge panoramic view. The base of the memorial is decorated with three mosaic panels by the French artist Fernand Leger.
